Now that I have recovered from the training (I slept till 11am today!!), I can now tell you more about what happened yesterday.
After the training was done, I texted the guy at BBC to inform him that I’m all done and was hoping I could pop round a bit early as there was not much for me to do in the middle of London, draging my luggage, waiting for the 4:30pm filming. He said I could come round early, so I hopped on the Tube and headed out to the White City, where the BBC buildings are based. He also warned that there are some technical problems with the lightings.
I arrived there, went to the building and asked for him. He turned up and we chatted and had a quick tour around the BBC building. It’s only 17 years old but it looks so new and very clean!
We got to the See Hear office and to my surprise, it’s not actually a big room, no big cameras in a big studio! It’s actually an “corner” studio within office! (if this make sense) There are even some offices & deskes that are practically next to the studio. There are only 26 staff working in there including editors. There are two editor desk to do some “rough” editing of videos before sending it out for “cleaning up” before doing a master copy. They use Avid for video editing sooftware.
Anyway, had a chat with the guy to see what they wanted me to do, what sort of questions they will ask and try to make the story more interesting. The time was about 3:30pm, an hour to go for the 4:30pm slot. They left me to relax, have a drink and read newspaper, with myself peeking over to see the filming for the next 3 weeks worth of See Hear, presenting by Clive Mason and a few others.
I also met Charlies (I think that was his name, let me know if I got your name wrong!) who is The”>http://scribblerspark.blogspot.com/”>The Scribbler on his blog, which I read now and then, but did not realise that he was there too! So it was nice putting the name to his face! We had a quick chat before getting interrupted by the productor.
The productor sat down and said that my slot will be delayed becaused they still have not finished filming due to earlier technical problem and he estimated that it will be done by 5:30pm. I looked at the time and it was a close call as I was going to catch the train home at 6pm. With the distance between White City and Liverpool Street Station, it was decided that the filming slot is to be dropped. What a shame! Everyone was disappointed including the productor because my story was very good. And the deadline for this is by Tuesday but I can’t go because I don’t have any leave left to take time off from work to attend this.
Nevermind, I still had a good time anyway, and have learnt a lot of how See Hear works and meeting some people, who were friendly. The overall experience has made me feel that I want to be more involved with this and I hope that in the future, we will be keeping in touch closely to help out with the Deaf world - whenever we can.
I left the BBC building, feeling happy and caught the tube back to Liverpool Street Station and then caught the train back to Norwich. Then my parents picked me up and dropped me off at home, had a quick chat. They went home.
We went to the corner shop to have take away because I couldn’t be arsed to cook.
And went to bed early! I deserved a good sleep.
Now today, I need to do some shopping to prepare for tonight’s Deaf Club’s event - Ann Smmers for the ladies night only. I think this should be fun for the aldies, but I won’t be involved obviously.
Just the bar work and spending time with the men in te other room… lol
Anyway, better get on with the day!
