Day 8 gone

Monday, July 10th, 2006

Work was ok. As I was off for a week last week, I arrived to work today to find loads of emails and jobs waiting for me. Not a good start from an exhausting week! However have managed to clear the backlog of emails and finished some of the jobs.

Finished alf four on the dot and left to pick up the missus before heading to the new house to carry on with the house work. However because it was in the evening, we was already worn out from work during the day time, we didn’t do much.

I carried on with removing the wallpaper in the bedroom while my mum & her hubby carried on with the wallpapering of the living room. They’re now at the “difficult bits” - corners, edges and around the object so it’s taking them a while to get it done. But it’s all done and hopefully by tomorrow they will finish it off. Thank you for your help. :-)

Photos uploaded as usual.

Hope you all had a good Monday.

What a great day!

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

Today has been a great day.

Mum & hubby been to help with the wallpapering and it’s looking good so far. Only one wall left to go which they will finish off tomorrow evening.

We have been painting the kitchen’s wall (with the new wallpaper), also trimmed the bushes in the front garden and also cutting the grass. And painted some bits on the ceiling that we have missed out.

Sister and her bf popped round in the afternoon and they helped with stripping out the wallpaper in our bedroom. So far so good.

Overall, a great day with lots of jobs done. Yay! :D

Photos are being uploaded, so check out my Gallery in a few minutes to see the new photos.

Carpet

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

As some of you know, we had someone from Carpet Right to measure our large living room, the hallway and the stairs for new carpet.

And the price came into £674 plus £110 for installer time. I then handed them the 10% discount paper which I mentioned in my earlier post and the price came down to just £589.04 which saved us about £84. :D

Got some new wallpaper rolls, paste & other stuff and it came to just over £115 - ouch.

The joy of new home’s decorations… anyone got some spare change for us? ;P

Oh and we got two more “New Home” cards in the post this morning bringing up to 6 cards in total so far. I now some of you still have my old address and I will be e-mailing some of you my new address so you can send us some goodies cards.

Going back to the house now.

Day Five

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Today has been a good day. No hot weather, just cool weather, which gave us more work to do.

Spent almost all day sanding the wall to smooth out the plaster, also painting the window still, and the wood around the room, on the bottom (forgot what it’s called)

Also my mum tidied up the rear & front garden a bit. And she helped with painting the ceiling with us too.

Plus replastered the broken off plaster wall (see photos to see what I mean)

Living room is starting to look good now.

Need to clean up tomorrow morning, so the guy from Carpet Right can measure the rooms in the afternoon on Sat.

Photos from yesterday and today has been uploaded - check them out. You will also get the chance to see me working hard. ;P

At last

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Finally finished stripping out the wallpaper in the living room with the help of my mum and it’s looking good!

I also finished filling up the drill holes with Polyfilla and has left them to dry. Will be sanding them tomorrow so we’ll have a dusty living room! Got some face mask with filters, so that’s me protected. :D

Went to Homebase in the evening and got some paints, got someone from Carpet Right to come round for a free quote for a carpet for the living room, the stairs and the hallway this Sat. Hopefully not too expensive as the living room is massssssive.

Left my digital camera at the other house so no photos tonight! However I will try to remember to bring it tomorrow so I can upload them.

My DVD order from play.com arrived today - Alien Autospy - watched it this evening and thought it was a good film and funny.

Time to get some rest.

Ahhh, nice!

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

The rain overnight has helped with the hot weather - it was very cool this morning, we managed to do some more stuff done, mostly on removing the wallpapers and that was an all day effort.

Almost done and I’m sure it will be done by tomorrow afternoon. Then start painting the ceiling, hopefully.

Day Three photos has been uploaded.

Day two is over…

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

What a hard day!

Morning

Got up, got changed and left the house early in the morning, only to face a very long traffic on the A11 due to an accident. When we got to the roundabout we soon found out what happened - lorry carry wood overturned which means the driver went round the roundabout too fast. Pah.

Found somewhere to park our car for free and walked to the van hire centre and pcked up a Ford Transit van. Went straight to the storage and filled it up. Left the heavy stuff in the storage, went to Morrision to have ur breakfast before heading back to our new home.

Arrived there, unloaded the stuff and had a break for a while.

Afternoon

Went back to the storage, met up my sister’s bf to help with the heavy stuff and loaded the rest of the stuff in the van and cancelled the contract with the storage company - that should save us money! Once again, drove back to our new home and unloaded the stuff. At that time, we were starting to feel worn out!

Drove to my mum’s house to drop off my sister’s bf and had a quick chat before heading back to Norwich to drop off the van and picked up our car.

Then drove all the way to Attleborough to pick up my car and got some food. Headed back to our current house to have our lunch/dinner and relaxing in front of the TV and complaining about how hot the weather is.

Evening

Weather got cooler, so we decided to go to the new house and start stripping off the wallpaper. Was there for about 3 hours before we decided it’s time to stop now as we were very sleepy and worn out, with the weather and lack of sleep. :(

Should be raining by tonight… hope so!

Anyway, photos of Day Two has been uploaded…

Another sleepless night, another hard work day.

Sunny is shining as usual.

We’re now heading out to pick up the van to collect the stuff from Yellow Storage and close the contract. Need to save money! :D

Hoping to make a start of ripping the wallpaper out in the living room.

Busy day!

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

Today has been a busy day!

When we picked up the keys, we was presented with a bunch of flowers - how nice of them!

Drove to the new house, and got into the house (after finding the right key!), we had a good look around and get used to it. The grass are very overgrown and long in both front & back garden.

We then headed to Norwich, picked up my mum and went to Comet and Currys to check out fridge and freezer. None of them matches our sizes due to a cupboard that is in the way.

Drove back to our new house with my mum and the rest of the gang (mum’s hubby and my sister & her bf) joined us in their car and they had a good look around of the house and we had a chat, exchanging some ideas for the home improvements, which was useful (thank you!)

We are now thinking about removing the cupboard in the kitchen so we cna fit the fridge & freezer, just need to find the suitable size either tomorrow or Wed.

Soon, they has gone home, we made a start of ripping out we don’t need. And the first thing was to rip out the kitchen door as it was making the room smaller. When we took out the door, it’s bigger now. Much better!

Then ripped out some old cables and the lame & ugly TV stand (will show you the photos soon) and soon, it was already 7:30pm. We stopped, packed up a bit, locked up the house and went for a pizza!

Overall, we are excited. From what we looked around, we have LOTS to do but I am sure it will be worth it at the end. We need to bring our fans and cool down the room while we’re doing up the house.

The next door neighbour has the habit of parking their 4×4 truck along or driveway/garage. I think they got used to it when the previous owner moved out. Going to park our car in our driveway tomorrow so he will be aware that we’re living at that house now, but if it contiues, maybe a polite note or something through their letterbox…

Tomorrow - pick up van to move stuff out of the storage and cancel it to save money and shove it in the small room upstairs, covered up to stop building dust getting on them.

In other news, my car is ready to be picked up - the part arrived a day earlier, so yay!

Too hot at the moment, so going to eat some ice cream. :D
