Happy Halloween!

Friday, October 31st, 2003

No one knocked on out door - good stuff.

Work was ok, a bit slow day, which is as usual every Friday.

I feel a bit sick. Ate a bag of choccy this lunchtime and more this evening. Silly me. But it was nice. :)
Tomorrow:

* Fix the other PC
* Go shoe shopping for me
* Go to library
* Have lunch
* Go to UEA
* Watch fireworks depending on weather.

Should be a fun day tomorrow, hopefully.

Good day today

Thursday, October 30th, 2003

Work was great, lots of stuff done!

After work, we went to Comet to pick a new washing machine as they offered us to pick a new one as the same model is out of stock.

Sadly, we did not find anything for the same price, so we ended up paying £90 extra for a better washing machine. Still, that would mean we’re just paying £90 for a brand new washing machine. Pretty good.

But. Oh yes, always a but.

They said they will pick up the old washing machine, and at the same time, they will drop off the new washing machine… if we pay the £24 delivery charge! We said that if they’re picking it up for free, surely, they can deliver it for free too, but they won’t accept it.

We then argued how Comet and the service engineer fucked us around for 2 weeks, which involved:

1) engineer was due to visit and then cancelled it for no reason a day before the visit
2) 1 week later, new date arranged, engineer went to wrong house, wasted half day waiting for him to come as they never let us know.
3) engineer refused to come round after 4pm, they want to come round at 2pm even that we told them that no one will be home! gah

So she called the manager and agreed that the delivery charge wavied. Good stuff.

Paid for it, arranged a delivery date and we should get it next Sat. The only time they can offer was Thurs, Fri & Sat (not this week, next week!)

Long wait, but should be worth it… hopefully! :)
After the visit to Comet, we went to UEA as she needed some work to do, while I surfed the ‘net and helped out a bit. We were there until 11:30pm, when we decided to go home.

I’m feeling worn out. And sleeeeeepy! Bed soon.

You know you’re a geek…

… when I run dumpchk.exe on an *.DMP file to find out why Windows is blue screening.

Very useful tool and it helped me to track down to an 3rd party software that was doing the crashing, not the Windows itself!

Hmm!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

After replying the fax from Comet with the serial number, they replied very quickly and gave me the choices:

1) Replace washing machine with the same model (but they do not have any in stock and won’t be for days)

2) Pick a new & different model for the same price

3) Refund

At the moment, a refund would look good, but obviously, we will be without a washing machine! So we’re thinking about going with the 2nd choice.

Anyone agree?

The Dead Washing Machine

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

Well, well that was an interesting morning and afternoon!

As I mentioned this morning, the man was supposed to come round to fix the washing machine between 8:30am and 12pm.

12pm came, he never turned up. I called Comet to find out what is going on. Comet then called Servis for us and they said they did come round to the house, knocked on the door and no one was there and left. I told them that I was home at that time. They put me on hold and found out that the engineer, which is contracted by Servis, went to the wrong house about 30 miles away! We argued that we wasted our time waiting for it for 2 weeks and Comet just told me to contact the engineer myself to arrange the time when it’s actually NOT my job to do this as the contact is between Comet and me. I told them to come round over the weekend, they don’t do weekend. I told them to come round after 4pm, they refused (even that they finish work at 5pm!) leaving me with no choice but to let them give me the details to contact the engineer.

I hung up the phone (after 31 mins of talking!) and didnt contact the engineer as I was pissed off.

I then started to find out the address to the Comet head office, started to write a letter, when all of sudden I received a fax from Comet and they said that Servis admited that “they made a mistake with your address” and they have decided to swap my dead washing machine with a replacement free of change as a goodwill.

Finally, we’re getting somewhere! Now, all I have to do is to reply with the serial number of the washing machine and a time for them to come round.

I hope this will be sorted out soon!

Bahh!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

Yesterday was blah!

Work went ok, and no students because of half term - yay!

Finished work early (3:30pm), got home, find another letter of summons for unpaid fee of council tax. GRRR, it was sorted out last month. So I went to the office and explained what happened before. They looked up my account and they said they still have the details from my last visit and they have not taken any action to update their database!! That was 1 month ago. They told me not to worry and they will deal with it.

I really hope they do that within 14 days because according to the letter, if we do not pay after 14 days, someone will knock down the door, take all expensive stuff and sell it in auction to recover the money!

So we decided to write 2 pages long letter to the Director of Council Tax in the Norwich office in the hope that this matter will be sorted out before 14 days. *sigh* Why can’t they do the job right?

Anyway, after that visit, I wandered around the city, looking for all different sort of mobile phones and see which one is better.

Got home at 5pm, installed my new Netgear 100Mbps switches in two rooms and the network is a lot faster now. The network used to be 10Mbps and file copying over the network was so slow. Now it’s blazing fast. :)
Then a computer died with a faulty memory. ARGHHHHH!! Luckly it’s under warranty so I have contacted Crucial to get the RMA number. Used a spare memory and it’s back up & running.

Cooked dinner, watched TV and headed to bed. I feel like yesterday was a very long day.

Today, the dude is supposed to be coming over to fix our washing machine, but so far, he still has not turned up yet. (between 8:30am and 12pm). I really hope he will turn up, otherwise we’ll have to arrange another day!

Ok, my morning break is over, so back to work!

* Cleaned & tidy up shelfs in the kitchen
* Cleaned the kitchen floor and downstairs toliet’s floor
* Brushed the paths of outside as it was full of red berries-like as it was sticking to our shoes. And leafs too.
* Cleaned the back window of my car as it was grimy as I couldn’t see from the rear mirror
* Hung up the sunflower head to dry so I can collect the seeds

Morning!

Sunday, October 26th, 2003

Hallo all! Woke up at about 8am, but thanks to the time change, I actually woke up at 7am. Walked around the rooms, changed all of the clock on the wall, video and my mobile phone. All PCs updated the time itself, so all are sorted. :)
Planning to clean the house today, so I’m going to busy most of the morning.

Shopping

Saturday, October 25th, 2003

Just been to Sainsburys to get some general food and there was a power cut. All of the tills went out, and lots of chaos!

Lots of people just gave up, left the trolley and walked away while the food are still in the trolley and the trolleys were everywhere. Many staff was working quickly to put away the foods and frozen food!

And a very long queue. Gah, a simple 5 mins shopping leads to 20-30 mins!
