Another day gone

Another day gone, another day at work. Not much stuff happening.

Need to renew my road tax today as it expires today. A reminder to you all too if yours expires today. :)
I want my next car to be VW Golf but I can’t find one for a reasonable amount. :(

What’s your budget for a Golf, and what spec are you looking for?

  2. Avatar tsutton Says:

Just a standard VW Golf, perhaps 1.1 engine but I think there’s none, just higher.

    And for the budget… I know it’ll never happen… around £2,000 or less. :(

I don’t think they make modern Golf’s in a 1.1 engine, certainly not post 1992 (Mk. III Golf), the smallest that I’m aware they manufacture those in was a 1.4, which I imagine would be sluggish.

Have you considered getting a loan over a long term, say 5 years, and buying a brand new Golf or Polo?

I can’t afford a loan… and I have heard bad news about loans. Too high % in return. But a new car would be nice…

It depends on how you look at it, and where you get your loan from. I wouldn’t personally buy a car on HP or Finance, because often the APR (Interest %) can be astronomical. However, if you were to go to your bank and ask for a loan, the rates are usually very reasonable.

Personally, I took out a £3000 loan for my Car, and I pay £121 a month over 2.5 years for it, so in total I’ll pay £3630, meaning that the loan will cost me £630 over 30 months, which isn’t bad, since the alternative was to not have a Car!

It all comes down to how much you want the Car, doesn’t it? If you really want/need a new Car, then you’ll make it happen.

Oh yeah, one last thing, if you’ve got a Car already, and it is in good condition etc. I personally wouldn’t recommend going even further into debt just for the sake of a new(er) Car.

    Good point. Thanks.

sold my d-reg Golf for £250 just before christmas, for an oldish car 1.3 it wasn’t too sluggish at all; probably because it’s quite light. If the new golfs handle anything like the old then they’re definitely worth a go, although you do get slight understeer on the normal models wheras the GTi’s apparently corner better; but i can’t vouch for that myself having not driven a GTI.

  9. Avatar tsutton Says:

GTi would cost a lot more insurance! Need to earn myself a few years before I get anything powerful. :)

true a gti is group 8 I think. the cheapest recent car, insurance wise, is a daewoo matiz (group 2) but they aren’t quite my cup of tea and the cheapest one i’ve seen was £3500 (£6000-£7000 brand new..)

unless the MOT bills start increasing on the current one i’d wait; a car is just a car after all.

Yeah… a car is a car. My Pug 106 has over 119,000 miles, still pumping out white smoke (even they said they fixed it) and I can “feel” that the suspection system is creaking… but it passed the MOT. *shrugs*

I wanted to sell this while it’s still in good condition to get good money back so I can use it to buy a better car.

Guess I could wait till I win the lotto. :)
